2028 NSF will be new dawn for Bayelsa — Andrew Aye

    Published on

The Bayelsa State Director of Sports, Mr. Andrew Aye, has described the state’s bid to host the 2028 National Sports Festival as “a new dawn” for Bayelsa, commending the Prosperity Administration for taking the bold step.

Mr. Aye made the remark during a world press conference held on Tuesday at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. He assured that the government is committed to putting all necessary structures and logistics in place to ensure that Bayelsa is fully prepared to host the nation in 2028.

According to him, hosting the prestigious national event will open up new opportunities across the state. He noted that the festival will create thousands of jobs while giving children and young athletes in Bayelsa the platform to become national champions.

In line with this enthusiasm, the Bayelsa State Government, through the Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Daniel Igali, reaffirmed its readiness to host what he described as “the best-ever National Sports Festival.” Igali revealed that following an assessment tour by a national inspection team, Bayelsa was adjudged fit and capable of hosting the 2028 edition.

The Commissioner emphasized that the festival will also serve as a vehicle to showcase and promote the rich cultural heritage of Bayelsa State. He added that hosting the event will significantly enhance the state’s sporting infrastructure and boost its chances of topping the festival’s medals table.

Providing updates on ongoing preparations, Hon. Igali disclosed that major construction works are underway, including the new stadium at Igbogene, which is currently in progress, and a 5,000-seater stadium to be built in Sampou community.

He further announced that the National Sports Commission has pledged to construct an Olympic-size 50-metre swimming pool in the state. According to him, the only requirement left is the provision of suitable land so that construction can commence as early as next week.

With these developments, Bayelsa State appears poised to deliver an unforgettable 2028 National Sports Festival—one that promises to leave a lasting legacy for sports development, youth empowerment, and cultural promotion across the state.
