Katsina State Government has announced the approval for the recruitment of 1,020 new healthcare personnel across the state by Governor Dr. Dikko Umar Radda. According to the government, 80 percent of the new recruits will be drawn from the state’s dedicated casual staff who have served in various health facilities for several years.
This decision highlights the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and recognising the efforts of existing staff. The move is expected to strengthen primary healthcare systems and boost service delivery across Katsina State.
A committee has been inaugurated to oversee the recruitment process of the new primary healthcare staff into local government healthcare facilities. The committee, chaired by Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, held its inaugural meeting at the conference Hall of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Katsina.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Hon. Safana explained that the committee was mandated to set clear and transparent criteria for the recruitment process. He said, “We have undertaken a pledge to abide by the criteria set up for the employment process to ensure fairness and merit.”
Hon. Safana emphasised that the committee would focus on selecting qualified and committed individuals capable of delivering quality healthcare services. “We intend to give priority to casual staff that have been working with the health facilities,” he stated.
He added that the committee would ensure objectivity and sincerity throughout the process, noting that only applicants who meet the qualifications and demonstrate dedication to service will be considered.
The chairman, who also serves as the Special Adviser on Local Government Inspectorate, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to reward dedication and strengthen the healthcare system.
Other members of the committee include: the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, the Local Government Auditor General, the Chairman of ALGON, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, and the Director of Administration and Supply at the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, who will serve as Secretary.
This development aligns with Katsina State’s broader goal of enhancing healthcare infrastructure, creating job opportunities, and ensuring better access to medical care for residents.
