The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon James Melvin Ejeh, has described as unfortunate the boat mishap which occurred in the state yesterday.
Ejeh, who spoke to New National Star in a telephone conversation, disclosed that it was terrible when a family of five lost their lives in a boat mishap while travelling.
“It is really unfortunate saying we’re in the mourning mood adding it would take some time for us to get over the accident. Recall that peace is gradually returning after several years of suspected Fulani herders’ massacre in the council, we’re witnessing another horrible tragedy just yesterday,” he said.
He prayed to God to grant the souls of the victims everlasting peace, pointing out that the disaster is a painful one.
He urged boat drivers to commence the usage of life jackets to safeguard their passengers.
He emphasised it has become necessary to make legislation for the usage of life jackets urging the Federal Government to enforce the rules to the effect.
