Taraba Gov signs landmark sports, youth development bills into law

    Published on

In a significant step toward empowering the youth and promoting sports development, His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, signed two pivotal bills into law this morning: the Taraba State Sports Commission Bill (Law Number 10 of 2025) and the Taraba State Youth Development Agency Bill (Law Number 11 of 2025).

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Jalingo, marks a transformative milestone in the state’s commitment to fostering the holistic development of its young population.

The commission will focus on identifying and nurturing talent, improving sports infrastructure, and promoting competitive and recreational sports programs. By creating opportunities for youth engagement in athletics, the commission aims to enhance physical fitness, mental well-being, and social cohesion while unlocking economic opportunities through sports-related initiatives.

The Taraba State Youth Development Agency Law, on the other hand, institutionalizes a framework to address the multifaceted needs of Taraba’s youth. The agency will spearhead programs focused on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, mental health support, and civic engagement, ensuring that young people are equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It will also serve as a platform to address challenges such as unemployment, education gaps, and social exclusion, aligning with the state’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Governor emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the youth, who represent the backbone of Taraba’s future. “These laws are a testament to our dedication to creating opportunities for our young people to excel physically, mentally, socially, and economically,” he stated. “We will continue to provide platforms that address their aspirations and challenges while fostering an environment where their potential can flourish.”

The state government has pledged to allocate resources and collaborate with relevant partners to ensure the effective implementation of both initiatives.

The government has called on citizens, particularly the youth, to actively engage with these new institutions to maximize their benefits.
