    FCT NUJ to revive press clubs in schools

    The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, is set to revive press clubs in secondary schools across Abuja.

    This initiative is part of an effort to raise a new generation of ethics and Comrade Yahaya Ndababo, the vice chairman of the Council, disclosed this during an interactive session with students of Government Secondary School (GSS) Garki. professional journalists.

    “Our goal is to promote professionalism from the grassroots by empowering students with journalistic skills and values early on,” he explained.

    Ndababo announced that the project will officially kick off on Thursday, July 24, 2025, starting with two pilot schools in the FCT.

    Speaking on behalf of the school, Mrs. Udofia Emauwa Unyime, the Matron of the GSS Garki Press Club, commended the NUJ for what she described as a “timely and visionary effort.”

    Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT, Comrade Grace Ike, has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to a free press, warning against growing attempts to silence Journalists.

    The Chairman noted this at the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council Press Week continued with a thanksgiving service at World Harvest Ministries, Jikwoyi, with the theme: “Press freedom is non-negotiable,”.

    She said despite the challenges, be it misinformation, disinformation, or harassment, journalists will continue to speak truth to power.

    “We will not be intimidated. We are workers in the vineyard of truth, and like today’s sermon declared, whatever we declare shall come to pass. We declare press freedom for Nigerian journalists, especially in the FCT,” she concluded.

    The NUJ Press Week continues with a series of activities aimed at fostering unity among journalists, promoting press freedom, and highlighting the vital role of the media in Nigeria’s democracy especially in this era of Artificial Intelligence.
