Retired police officers in Katsina State on Monday stayed away from the nationwide protest over poor welfare packages, despite the call for demonstrations across the country.

A survey across the three senatorial zones and major urban towns in the state revealed a complete absence of protests or street demonstrations by the retirees.

Security operatives were, however, observed stationed at various flashpoints across the state to forestall any possible breakdown of law and

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Katsina State Command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed that the decision to avoid the protest followed a meeting between the state command and the association of retired police officers.

He said: “My commissioner invited them to a meeting earlier on and assured them that all their outstanding entitlements would be duly paid.”

Aliyu added that the Commissioner also reminded the retirees of the Inspector General of Police’s commitment to addressing their welfare concerns.

“It was then resolved that there was no need to embark on any street protest. I’m glad you went around and saw things for yourself,” he concluded.
