The Benue State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Aondowase Kunde, has called for intervention for over 10,000 abandoned Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at NKST Naka in Gwer-West Local Government Area.
Kunde made the declaration Thursday while declaring open two-day workshops slated between 17 and 18 at Benue Hotels in Makurdi, Benue State.
He expressed dismay over the unfortunate situation as the IDP camp has tripled in number to those at the International Market along Senator George Akume Way in Makurdi.
He lamented that they were neglected, adding that their condition is pathetic.
“Nothing was provided for them as welfare – not even water is presented to those affected people all these while in the camp,” he complained.
He frowned at the negligence on the part of partners, including spirited individuals for lack of sympathy for the displaced persons.
Kunde further explained that the purpose of the workshop is to review and validate, with desire to chat the way forward.
“There is allegation of fraud across the Internally Displaced Persons camps by the former Executive Secretary of Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr Tor Uja. In his comment, I don’t react to emotions. Moreso, hardly joined issues with the clergy. As far as I’m concerned, the case has not been brought to his attention,” he added.
