    Published on

Police Inspector deployed on special duty reportedly took his own life in the early hours of Wednesday in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident, which occurred at about 1:50 a.m., involved Inspector Bassey Asuquo, a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF) based in Umuahia, Abia State.

He was said to be in the area for a special assignment.

This was contained in a post on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on Thursday.

Inspector Asuquo had been exhibiting signs of abnormal behaviour before the tragic incident.

“As a precautionary measure, his Unit Commander had reportedly instructed that his rifle be retrieved and secured in the armoury of the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division,” the post noted.

However, it was gathered that Asuquo later gained access to another officer’s rifle while the latter was asleep. He allegedly used the weapon to fatally shoot himself in the head.

His remains have since been deposited at the General Hospital in Sarkin-Pawa.
