    Published on

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law three landmark bills sponsored by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, establishing new tertiary institutions in Abia and Imo States.

The laws pave the way for the creation of: Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State; Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Abia State; and Federal University, Okigwe, Imo State.

The institutions aim to expand educational access, promote research, and meet the region’s academic and developmental needs.

The Federal College of Education, Bende, will focus on teacher training and instruction in diverse fields, while the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, is set to deliver top-tier medical education and healthcare research.

The new Federal University in Okigwe will offer a broad array of academic programs and research opportunities.

Reacting to the presidential assent, Hon. Kalu thanked President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and Nigerians, saying the move marks “a significant milestone in promoting education and development in the region.”

He urged continued support for the Tinubu administration, promising more “democratic dividends” for the South East.
