Birnin Kebbi, June 4, 2025 – The Kebbi State Government has extended its warm congratulations to Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, the Emir of Gwandu, following the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his position as the rightful Emir.

    The judgement was passed today.

In a press statement signed by Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, Commissioner for Information and Culture, the state government described the victory as a culmination of a long-standing feud and litigation that has plagued the emirate for two decades.

The government noted that the judgment has brought an end to the impasse, which had raised questions and negatively impacted the tranquility required for the emirate to function effectively.

The statement urged the Emir to be magnanimous in victory and to rally all feuding family members to bring peace and stability to the traditional institution and the emirate.

The people of Gwandu Emirate were also called upon to see the ruling as a call for unity and reconciliation, leveraging on the unprecedented development and progress achieved under the present administration of Dr. Nasir Idris to achieve more sustainable development.

The Kebbi State Government reaffirmed its support for the Emir and expressed optimism that the judgment would usher in a new era of peace and progress for the emirate in particular and the state in general.

    Signed:
    Ahmed Idris
Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Comrade Governor
