The Bill to amend the Kwara State Prohibition of Kidnapping in the State has been read for the second time by the State House of Assembly. .

The prime mover of the Bill and member representing Kaima/Kemanji/Wajibe Constituency, Abdullah Halidu Danbaba, while highlighting the danger kidnapping poses to the society, said the Bill, if passed, would upgrade the fines and punishments for offenders of the law and other related matters.

Hon. Danbaba, however, urged the House to ensure speedy passage of the Bill in order to curb incessant Kidnapping and other criminal activities across the State.

Other members, who contributed to the debate, emphasised the need for the House to enact a law that would ban the ugly activities in the State.

The Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, directed the Committee on Ethics and Judiciary to conduct a public hearing on the Bill and report back to the House as soon as possible.

Similarly, the House had earlier read a Bill to establish Magistrate Court in the State for the first time.

After the circulation of copies to all the Honourable Members in preparation for the Second Reading, the Bill was thereafter referred to the Business and Rules Committee for further legislative processes.
