Seyi Shay: Why I stopped going to church

    Published on

The Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has disclosed the reason behind her decision to no longer attend her previous church.

She claimed that she took this action when a church leader suggested that the congregation go back to traditional Christian hymns and songs that “are direct scripture” instead of new-age gospel tunes.

While exploring African relatives, Shay claimed she could not understand why people like the church leader would be content to sing songs that were composed by “slave owners” and passed down through the years.

She emphasized that ignorance is not godly and advised Christians to learn traditional Christian hymns and songs before singing them.
