The Kano State Government has commemorated the one-year anniversary of the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano with a special prayer session, reaffirming its dedication to upholding the role of traditional institutions.

Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, in a statement marking the occasion, emphasized the administration’s commitment to strengthening the influence of traditional leadership in maintaining peace, unity, and cultural heritage across the state.

Naija News recalls that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Emir Sanusi on May 24, 2024, following the signing of the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law a day earlier. The new legislation dissolved the emirates of Bichi, Karaye, and Rano, reaffirming Kano as a unified traditional authority under Emir Sanusi.

Speaking during the prayer session, Deputy Governor Gwarzo highlighted the crucial role traditional institutions play in fostering societal cohesion and cultural continuity. “Our traditional institutions are pillars of wisdom, peace, and stability,” he said. “Governor Yusuf’s administration holds them in the highest regard and will continue to partner with them for the collective good of the people.”

The event, led by prominent Islamic scholars and attended by key community leaders, served as a time of reflection and appreciation for Emir Sanusi’s leadership. Gwarzo praised the Emir’s commitment to justice, progress, and the welfare of Kano’s citizens, describing him as a beacon of unity and stability.

The anniversary celebration underscored the enduring influence of traditional leadership in the governance and social harmony of Kano State.
