President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the National Disaster Relief Fund Committee on Tuesday at the State House’s Council Chambers.
The committee, led by Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, will commence work on creating a national framework to strengthen disaster response and build climate resilience across Nigeria.
Designed to bring together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, the fund will function as a centralized pool for federal emergency resources, supporting and enhancing the work of Nigeria’s existing emergency response agencies.
It is worth noting that President Tinubu had previously appointed Elumelu to chair the National Disaster Fund and serve as the private sector representative during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in September last year.
The committee will also include key figures such as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and the Ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Aviation, Water Resources, and Environment, along with the Director General of NEMA.
