2027 Presidential Election: ‘If I Were Peter Obi, I Would Return To PDP’ – Sowunmi

    Published on

Segun Sowunmi, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged Peter Obi to think about rejoining the party in order to improve his political chances before the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview, Sowunmi made the case that Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, requires a stronger platform in order to run in 2027.

“With an eye toward 2027, the PDP of Nigeria will open its procedures, make an announcement when the forms are available, and encourage anyone who is comfortable enough to run to do so,” Sowunmi stated.

He continued by saying that Obi might present a strong argument for the PDP’s presidential ticket if he returned, highlighting the fact that the PDP was first founded by southern elites such as the late Alex Ekwueme.

“I would rejoin the PDP and strongly advocate for the presidential ticket if I were Peter Obi. I don’t see why the Igbo, southern leaders, and other powerful players inside the PDP can’t unite and declare, “Okay, we recognize this – here’s the ticket,” given that this party was first established in the bedroom of the late Alex Ekwueme. Sowunmi clarified.

Obi’s remarkable performance in the 2023 election, where he garnered over six million votes without much help from governors or other political players, was another example of his potential, according to Sowunmi.

He predicted that Obi’s chances would greatly increase with the support of 12 governors and the party’s strong grassroots infrastructure.

“Every region has been visited, but the South East has not yet been visited. Obi is still allowed to make his own choices, though. I can assure you that if he were to enter the PDP and run for president, he would win the Christian North, North Central, South East, and South South, according to his numbers and the enthusiastic energy that is behind him, Sowunmi said.
