Actor Uzor Arukwe reacts to criticism over his ‘simp’ role in movie

Uzor Arukwe, a Nollywood actor, has responded to criticism on his performance in Omoni Oboli’s recent film, “Love In Every Word.”

Arukwe has come under fire for supposedly depicting Igbo males as “simps.” Arukwe played Odogwu Obiora, a wealthy Igbo guy who lavishes extravagantly on his partner Chioma (played by Bambam).

Although many people, particularly women, have hailed the film as the ideal representation of how men ought to treat their spouses, several male viewers felt that it overstated men’s obligations to their partners.

“Anambra men are not simps,” an X user named Himp2million wrote. Only women who have always believed that an odogwu would spend his last penny on them enjoy your film.

In response to the X user, Arukwe clarified that maintaining a relationship and investing in one’s partner does not equate to being a simp; rather, it demonstrates responsibility.

Taking care of your girlfriend and investing in her doesn’t make you a simp, he wrote. It merely makes you a man of responsibility.

If your cash is insufficient to meet your partner’s demands, how else can you demonstrate your love for them?

For reportedly superimposing his character in a film, Uzor Arukwe will face criticism for the second time.

His Igbo accent was allegedly overdone in Funke Akindele’s hit song “A Tribe Called Judah” in 2023.
