Due to suspected illicit mining in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has detained four Chinese nationals and 27 others.

Dele Oyewale, the commission’s spokesperson, made this announcement in an Abuja statement on Tuesday.

According to Oyewale, the suspects were taken into custody on Saturday at Jiasheng Nigeria Limited’s Dura Rayfield, Mangu Road, Jos, location.

He claimed that the arrest followed reliable information that connected the business to illicit mining operations in the state.

He went on to say that among the suspects are 27 Nigerians and four Chinese, some of them are suppliers who may have unlawfully mined unprocessed solid minerals.

The EFCC spokesperson added that during the arrests, other exhibits were found on the property, including a truck filled with eight bags of processed monazite, each weighing 1000 kg and valued at N4 million.

Oyewale reaffirmed that as soon as the investigations were finished, the accused will face charges in court.
