Fani-Kayode responds, “Free At Last,” when court drops exonerates him of accusations

After 18 exhausting and challenging years of pursuing the matter, Fani-Kayode expressed his happiness at becoming free.

In a medical forgery case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Fani-Kayode was found not guilty by the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State.

In her decision on Tuesday, Justice Olubumni Abike-Fadipe ruled that the EFCC was unable to prove Fani-Kayode’s involvement in the crime.

The judge cleared the former minister of the crime after ruling that the EFCC had not sufficiently established a prima facie case against him.

Following his alleged use of a forged medical report or reports, Fani-Kayode was facing 12 a count charges from the EFCC. He presented these charges to Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where the EFCC was prosecuting him for an alleged fraud of ₦4.9 billion.

Fani-Kayode praised God in a Facebook post in response to the court’s ruling.

He claimed that now that the verdict was rendered, he could concentrate on his loved ones.

“Today was a fantastic day and a huge court victory,” he wrote.

“I am grateful   to God that the Lagos State High Court has dismissed the last and final set of criminal accusations brought against me by the EFCC.

“I have finally won the final criminal case, and it is finally done after eighteen hard and challenging years of continuous and consecutive cases in at least four different courts across the nation.

“After eighteen years, I’ve finally regained my life and am able to devote myself to my loved ones.”

“I think I understand the actual meaning of “lawfare” better than any other Nigerian, living or dead, and I can now shout the following words from the top of the roof, as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once proudly stated:

The glory belongs to God alone. “FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST.”
