The Nigerian Police have apprehended six individuals for various electoral offenses during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba made the announcement at a news conference in Benin, stating that the number of arrests may rise as investigations continue.

Mba reported that authorities recovered four weapons, live ammunition, 58 voters’ cards in unlawful possession, stolen BVAS machines, and cash during the operation. He described the governorship election as a peaceful and successful exercise, highlighting the Nigerian Police Force’s crucial role in maintaining law and order throughout the process.

Commending the people of Edo for their exemplary conduct, Mba expressed gratitude for their cooperation with the police. “The good people of Edo have conducted themselves commendably throughout the election process. We thank them for trusting and working with us,” he said. He also praised the professionalism and neutrality of police officers, members of the Armed Forces, and other law enforcement agencies during the elections.

In related news, the Inspector-General of Police recently presented N5.75 billion in life insurance cheques to 2,148 families of deceased police officers, underscoring the ongoing efforts to support law enforcement personnel and their families.
