Petrol Price: Nigerians Lament Increasing Transportation Fare

Residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expressing frustration over rising transportation fares linked to escalating fuel prices. Many have voiced concerns about how this surge in costs is impacting their daily commutes and livelihoods.

Mr. Bulus Dalong, a taxi driver, shared his struggles, stating, “Waiting in the park for over five hours for my cab to get filled up is not the best experience. Passengers often complain about the high fare, but with fuel prices soaring, I have no choice.” He urged the government to address the issue to ease the burden on everyday citizens.

Bartender Mr. Charis Chuks lamented that the transportation hike has made it increasingly difficult to manage his finances. “I was already struggling with food and other expenses; now transportation is an added burden. Government, please help,” he pleaded.

Nurse Miss Jumai Elabor reported that transportation costs now consume half her salary, hindering her ability to save and forcing her to arrive late to work due to long wait times for cabs to fill up.

Civil servant Mrs. Nkiruka Abang echoed similar sentiments, stating that rising transportation fares have worsened her family’s financial situation. “People are hungry; transportation should not add to our problems,” she said, expressing hope for government action.

Judah Ubeh, a corps member, noted that transportation challenges have led him to reduce his workdays, though he is grateful for a compassionate employer. Carpenter Mr. Julius Odafe emphasized the struggle many face, saying, “The increase in transportation fare has made it impossible for some of us to go about our daily business.”

As the community grapples with these rising costs, residents are calling for government intervention to alleviate the financial strain caused by fuel price hikes.
