Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, reaffirmed his commitment to improving the education sector by reinstating the boarding status of 15 girls’ secondary schools that were previously downgraded. The governor made this announcement during an unscheduled inspection visit to Government Girls Secondary School Albasu on Monday.

In a statement from his spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed his administration’s dedication to fully implementing the state of emergency on education. He criticized the previous administration for removing the boarding status, which he said adversely affected students’ academic progress.

Governor Yusuf pledged to end the practice of students learning under inadequate conditions, promising to rehabilitate public schools and provide necessary infrastructure and furniture. He emphasized that enhancing the quality of education is a top priority for his administration.

The governor also instructed the Ministry of Education to deploy teachers specializing in English, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences to improve educational outcomes. He reassured that rehabilitation work is underway to prepare the re-boarded schools for the upcoming academic session.

In addition to the education reforms, Yusuf inspected the nearly completed five-kilometer road project in Albasu and urged the contractor to expedite the remaining work. He also directed the Ministry of Health to assess the Albasu Primary Health Center with the goal of upgrading it to a Cottage Hospital and expanding its services.

Governor Yusuf’s initiatives reflect his commitment to enhancing educational and healthcare infrastructure in Kano State.
