Loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and former governor of Rivers State, have accused current Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the recent invasion of Wike’s residence in Port Harcourt by hunger protesters. The demonstration, which occurred on Tuesday, saw protesters laying siege to Wike’s mansion on Ada George Road amid ongoing nationwide protests over hunger and economic issues.
On Wednesday, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, representing former local government chairmen elected during Wike’s tenure, publicly condemned Fubara. Chidi Lloyd, a former Chairman of Emuoha Local Government Area, claimed that Fubara had directed the protesters to target Wike’s home, labeling the move as an act of political aggression.
Lloyd further warned Fubara, asserting that the Governor should be cautious about escalating the situation. He accused Fubara of attempting to incite ethnic tensions and criticized him for allegedly misappropriating state funds. The former chairmen vowed to mobilize support and protest against Fubara’s actions, questioning his leadership and management of state resources, particularly the reported ₦238 billion collected between May and June.
The accusations highlight growing political tensions in Rivers State, as key figures and factions vie for influence and control amidst public dissatisfaction and economic hardships.
