Major General Abubakar Abdulsalam, Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, has announced that the military will take decisive action against criminals hindering farming activities in Plateau, Kaduna, and Bauchi States during the planting seasons.

This decision follows a series of violent clashes between farmers and Fulani herders over illegal cattle grazing, which have severely impacted food security in the North and across Nigeria. General Abdulsalam issued this warning during a seminar themed “Peaceful Co-existence: Panacea for a Successful Farming Season,” held at the 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

“I will facilitate a hitch-free farming season in Plateau State and environs,” General Abdulsalam stated, emphasizing the critical link between food security and national security. He urged stakeholders to foster an environment where farming and herding can coexist peacefully, free from conflict.

The General also condemned recent farm destructions and cattle attacks, noting that these incidents have escalated tensions and led to further violence in the affected communities over the past two months.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, represented by his Special Adviser on Peace and Conflict Resolution, Atiku Sanky, both commended Operation Safe Haven for its efforts in restoring peace. Jacob Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, also praised the military’s initiative and its role in maintaining peace in the region.

The military’s commitment to addressing criminal activities disrupting agricultural practices aims to ensure a stable and productive farming season, which is essential for the nation’s food security and overall stability.
