President Bola Tinubu has instructed a thorough and comprehensive reassessment of the recently unveiled governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This review is slated to occur prior to the inauguration and planned retreat for the nominees.

Following the Federal Ministry of Education’s announcement of nominees for chairpersons, Pro-Chancellors, and council members of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, concerns arose from the public. Criticisms centered on the perceived lack of adherence to the federal character principle, with some states receiving disproportionate representation compared to others.

Acknowledging the widespread feedback and concerns, President Tinubu is steadfast in his commitment to upholding the principle of federal character as enshrined in the constitution. The forthcoming review aims to rectify any discrepancies, ensuring a balanced and equitable distribution of positions across the nation.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasized the importance of national representation and reiterated Tinubu’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and fairness in governance. The revision process will prioritize national spread, guaranteeing adequate representation for every region of the country.
