Emi Membere-Otaji, a respected Kalabari chief known for his influential voice in times of crisis, has once again stepped forward to address the political turmoil in Rivers State, emphasizing the importance of considering the business sector amidst the conflict.

As a medical doctor-turned-entrepreneur, investor, and esteemed businessman, Membere-Otaji’s opinions carry significant weight, often serving as a voice of reason during challenging times. His latest intervention comes as Rivers State grapples with escalating political tensions between key figures like Nyesom Wike and Sim Fubara.

Through his spokesperson, Anderson Hart, Membere-Otaji has urged all parties involved to prioritize the interests of the business community in their actions. He has joined other concerned leaders in calling for restraint and peaceful resolution to the crisis, emphasizing that prolonged instability not only harms businesses but also hinders governance and development efforts in the state.

As a prominent figure in the Organised Private Sector (OPS), Membere-Otaji’s call for calm holds significant importance. He holds key positions in various business organizations, including his role as Deputy National President of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce (NACCIMA).

Highlighting the broader implications of the crisis, Membere-Otaji stressed that the negative political developments in Rivers State have reverberations beyond the state’s borders. Given the state’s strategic importance as a hub of Nigeria’s energy sector and a major source of revenue, he emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and collaboration among all branches of government to uphold democracy and governance.

In conclusion, Membere-Otaji invoked the words of wisdom attributed to Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, urging fellow citizens to prioritize the interests of Rivers State above personal agendas. His call for reconciliation and cooperation underscores the necessity for all stakeholders to work towards a peaceful resolution that safeguards the interests of businesses and promotes stability in the region.
