In a heartbreaking turn of events, four students from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, have tragically lost their lives in a stampede while vying for rice intended to be distributed as palliative aid by the state government.

Reports indicate that the students allegedly forcibly entered a warehouse where the food items were stored for distribution early on Friday morning, overpowering the security personnel stationed at the institution around 5 a.m. They engaged in a desperate scramble for the palliative aid, leading to chaos and ultimately the fatal stampede.

According to sources, some students who were designated to receive the palliative aid had been issued ID cards granting them access to the distribution venue. However, the situation quickly spiraled out of control as a large number of students converged on the location, overwhelming security measures and causing the tragic incident.

At the time of this report, specific details surrounding the circumstances of the stampede remain limited.

This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for proper management and coordination in the distribution of relief aid, particularly during times of crisis. Further updates on the incident are expected to follow as more information becomes available.
