In a bid to strengthen the bond between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force, the Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Solomon Arase, along with the Commission’s management team, has welcomed the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, and his management team to the PSC’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

During the visit, Dr. Arase emphasized the successful stabilization of the relationship between the PSC and the Nigeria Police, highlighting the importance of both institutions working together to ensure the nation’s internal security. He acknowledged that challenges and frictions may arise, but stressed that they are not insurmountable. Dr. Arase urged the management team of the Police to provide the necessary support to the Inspector General, as there is much work to be done and strategies need to be adapted and improved over time.

Furthermore, Dr. Arase advised the legal teams of both institutions to collaborate closely to prevent judgments against Police Officers in the line of duty, which could lead to the garnishment of the Commission’s accounts as employers of the Police.

In response, the Inspector General of Police expressed his gratitude to Dr. Arase for his inspiring leadership and continuous support, even after his retirement as Inspector General. He acknowledged the positive impact Dr. Arase had on the Police force and expressed his commitment to maintaining a strong and collaborative relationship with the PSC. The Inspector General emphasized the importance of the PSC and expressed his willingness to resolve any issues that may arise through regular meetings and robust engagement.

Both parties agreed to hold quarterly meetings to address any outstanding issues and work collaboratively towards a better and more efficient policing system.

The new cordial relationship between the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force signifies a positive step towards enhancing internal security in the nation. With a focus on collaboration, improved strategies, and close engagement, the PSC and the Police are poised to work together in the best interest of the country.
