    University of Ibadan Tops Nigerian Universities, Ranks Seventh in Africa

    The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as Nigeria’s premier university, securing the seventh position in the overall ranking of African universities. Trailing closely behind is the University of Lagos (UNILAG), which secured the ninth spot on the continent.

    These rankings were unveiled in the 2023 World University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), which assessed a total of 1,799 universities across 104 countries worldwide.

    Leading the African rankings is the University of Cape Town, claiming the top spot, followed by Stellenbosch University and the University of Witwatersrand in second and third positions respectively.

    Ghana’s University of Cape Coast secures the fourth position, while Aswan University in Egypt holds the fifth spot. The University Ferhat Abbas of Setif in Algeria occupies the sixth position, with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa following in eighth place.

    Rounding up the top ten is Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania.

    On the global scale, the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom maintains its first-place position for the eighth consecutive year. Harvard University in the United States closely trails in second place, displacing the University of Cambridge to third place.
