Derek Izedonmwen, a gubernatorial aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has asserted that the SDP represents an alternative platform for the people of Edo State to attain the development that has eluded them. Speaking after declaring his intention in Ward 4, Oredo local government area, Izedonmwen emphasized that the SDP stands for a political party aligned with the people, as opposed to parties driven by moneyed interests and godfathers.

Addressing journalists, Izedonmwen outlined his vision to make Edo State the best in the country, capitalizing on its agro-allied capacity. He drew inspiration from past leaders such as Chief Anthony Enahoro, General Samuel Ogbemudia, and Professor Ambrose Alli, highlighting their significant contributions to the state’s development.

While acknowledging that he is not a multi-billionaire, Izedonmwen emphasized the need for an untainted outsider to bring about change in a broken system. He stressed that history has shown the importance of a few rising to represent the many and give voice to the voiceless, which motivated his entry into politics.

Expressing disillusionment with mainstream parties, Izedonmwen criticized them for resembling feudal lordships dominated by godfathers. He championed the values of inclusivity, social justice, and progress that he believes the SDP embodies.

Izedonmwen’s vision for Edo State includes rapid industrialization, transforming it into Nigeria’s entrepreneurial hub. He envisions a secure state brimming with innovation, flourishing businesses, and abundant opportunities, aiming to break free from the “arrested development” that has hindered progress.

In concluding his statement, Izedonmwen declared the launch of an engagement with the old guard to transition leadership to fresh hands committed to carving a path toward an industrial and prosperous future for every citizen of Edo.
