Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has cautioned chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT against frequent overseas trips, especially amid the deteriorating state of insecurity and the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

During an emergency meeting with security agencies and council chairmen in Abuja, Wike reassured FCT residents that decisive actions were being taken to address the security challenges in the territory. He urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that the government is actively working to resolve the issues.

Wike expressed concern about the security situation in the FCT, particularly in Bwari Area Council and other areas facing security challenges. He assured residents that every necessary step is being taken to address the challenges and provide support to security agencies.

The minister warned the area council chairmen against abdicating their responsibilities and frequent travels, stating that such actions would not be tolerated. He emphasized the importance of the council chairmen’s roles in addressing local issues.

Additionally, Wike addressed the crises affecting public primary school education in the FCT, noting that the recent NUT strike was a matter under the jurisdiction of the Area Councils. He highlighted the need for collaboration to resolve the challenges faced by primary schools in the FCT.
