Buhari Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict and Advocates for Increased Voter Turnout

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his approval of the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the appeals by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). He considers this verdict as a welcome relief to him and the majority of Nigerian citizens.

Buhari reiterated his stance, previously voiced after the September 6 verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court affirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory, that this decision reaffirms the will of the majority of the people in opposition to the determined will of a tenacious minority.

“Now that we have reached the final destination after an arduous 8-month-long and expensive legal journey, the nation deserves a respite. The opposition has put up a good fight. Having exhausted their constitutionally allowed rights, they should accept the hand of fellowship extended by the Tinubu/Shettima government. They should allow the government to carry out its administration, enabling the people to enjoy the full benefits of the promises made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

The former President also expressed concern over the low voter turnout across the country, particularly in urban areas, and urged that this should change, considering the acceptance and vibrancy of democracy in Nigeria.

He extended his best wishes to the President and his team for a successful term in office.
