Esther Hamidu, a credit officer employed at a microfinance bank, has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly absconding with customers’ contributions totaling ₦1.97 million.

According to reports from PUNCH Metro, Hamidu disappeared with the daily contributions made by the bank’s customers during the period from March to December 2023.

The branch manager of the bank in Abeokuta, the state’s capital, discovered that the contributions had not been properly remitted, prompting them to report the matter to the police.

Despite law enforcement efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect, Hamidu managed to elude capture and disappeared.

However, an unnamed source within the state police command has confirmed that the fugitive has now been arrested.
