The Academic Senior Staff Union (ASUU) has file an appeal against the judgement of National Industrial Court (NIC) Abuja which ordered lecturers to suspend the on-going strike by Federal Government Universities and return to the classroooms .

ASSU filed a 14 grounds of appeal in the appeal court asking it to set aside the judgement of NIC that ordered the Union to end the strike for academic activities to resume fully in the Universities.
ASSU, in the 14 ground of appeal through it lead legal team and Femi Falana,Senior Advocate of Nigeria ,SAN, also seek for a stay of execution of the NIC judgement.

The NIC had on Wednesday through the Presiding Judge ,Justice Polycarp Hamman , ordered the striking Federal Government Universities lecturers to suspend its seven- month old strike and return to the classroom, pending the determination of a suit brought before the court challenging the legality of the strike.

The Interim injunction ordering ASSU to return to work followed an application by Federal Government through its counsel ,James Igwe.

Justice in his ruling held that the order was both in the National interest and for the benefit of the students in the country that has been negatively affected by staying at home for the past seven months- February 14 when the strike started.

Justice Hamman held that the strike action was detrmental to Federal Government Universities’ students that cannot afford to attend private tertiary institutions.

” The balance of conveniente tots in favour of the application. I hold that this application is meritorios and this application is granted” Justice Hamman said.
