The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided clarification regarding a letter circulating about its decision not to participate in the appeal against the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s judgment that removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Barrister Suleiman Alkali, Head of the legal Department in Kano, explained that the letter was requested by the tribunal secretariat, and it was subsequently withdrawn, rendering it legally void. Despite this, a Notice of Appeal was filed on behalf of INEC on October 3, indicating its participation in the appeal process.
