Parents of Leah Sharibu, the Nigerian girl who was abducted by Boko Haram in 2018, have addressed recent insinuations about their daughter’s marital status and whereabouts, describing the rumors as confusing and disheartening. These rumors suggested that Leah had remarried and had two children after reportedly divorcing her first husband.

Dr. Gloria Puldu, the spokesperson for Leah’s parents and President of the Leah Foundation, clarified the situation in a statement. She expressed concern over the lack of concrete information about Leah’s whereabouts and the unsubstantiated nature of the rumors.

The parents called upon President Bola Tinubu to take action and criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari for not fulfilling his promise to secure Leah’s release two years after her abduction. They expressed frustration that the international community had seemingly forgotten about Leah’s plight and urged for accountability and transparency in Nigeria.

Leah Sharibu was abducted along with 109 other female students in 2018. While most of the girls were released following negotiations with Boko Haram, Leah remains in captivity because she refused to renounce her Christian faith.

The recent reports about Leah’s alleged remarriage and children have added to the uncertainty surrounding her situation. Her parents and supporters are demanding her immediate rescue and seeking answers about her fate.

The statement also highlighted the ongoing issue of student abductions in Nigeria, underscoring the need for improved safety and security in schools.

Leah Sharibu’s case continues to draw attention and concern both nationally and internationally, with calls for her release persisting as her whereabouts and condition remain uncertain.
