Nigeria, in a joint bid with Benin Republic, has lost its bid to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027. The hosting rights have been awarded to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, as reported by AFP.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, led representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation to Egypt to make the bid for hosting AFCON 2027. This marks a disappointment for Nigeria, which had previously hosted AFCON in 1980 when they emerged victorious with Christian Chukwu leading the team. However, the joint hosting with Ghana in 2000 did not yield success, as Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions claimed the trophy in Lagos.
