The first batch of Nigeria’s contingents to the fourth Africa Youth Games departed on Monday, December 8, as final preparations were completed for the multi-sport event in Angola.
Team Nigeria will be represented by 86 athletes across 12 sports: athletics, badminton, boxing, beach volleyball, cycling, judo, golf, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and weightlifting.
The Games run from December 10 to 20, 2025, and mark Angola’s debut as host—becoming the first Lusophone nation to stage the event. Competitions will take place across six host cities, including Luanda, Benguela and Bengo, and will welcome athletes aged 14 to 17 from up to 54 African countries.
The National Sports Commission described the Africa Youth Games as a key development platform for identifying and nurturing emerging talent, preparing athletes for major global competitions, and serving as qualifiers for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee expressed confidence in Team Nigeria’s readiness and medal prospects in Luanda.
