Prof. Attahiru Jega, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has stated that the 2023 general elections were “credible in many substantial aspects.” Jega acknowledged some challenges but emphasized the need to apportion blame appropriately, stating that politicians played a direct role in influencing certain areas. While acknowledging unfortunate incidents during the tenure of the current INEC chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, Jega expressed no evidence of Mahmood’s complicity in those issues.
