As the Super Eagles prepare for their big Africa Cup of Nations semifinal match against Morocco, former captain, William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina have sent messages to the team players and coaching staff, including Eric Chelle.
Both players said they are proud and believe in what the team has accomplished.
Troost-Ekong retired from international football a few days before the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, while Aina was named in the initial team list, but could not make the final list due to fitness concerns.
The Super Eagles are going into Wednesday night’s semifinal at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat full of confidence, as they have won every match they’ve played in AFCON 2025.
In a message shared on the Super Eagles’ social media pages, Ola Aina talked about how everyone worked together to help Nigeria succeed.
Aina said, “I want to send all the best wishes to everyone in the semi-finals, to the players, the technical team, the managers, the coaches, the physios, the doctors, and anyone else who has been doing an amazing job.
“It’s been really great to watch you play the way you’re capable of playing. This is a short note to everyone: do your best and wish you all the best luck. I will support you from home, sending all my prayers and good wishes.
Meanwhile, Troost-Ekong, added, “My brothers, the day is here. I am really really excited to see you all take on Morocco tonight.
“I just want to start by saying I’m really proud to be on the team, and everything you guys are doing is giving me a lot of energy.
“I’ve had a chance to talk to everyone here, whether on the radio or online, and it’s all about the Super Eagles — game after game, they’re getting better and better.
“Coach, I have to say the diamond formation in midfield and the way the players are rotating is really working well now, so I can’t wait to see the game later. If you win this game against Morocco, you’ll get to take the trophy home.
“Stick together, enjoy the moment. Some of you are playing in the semi-finals for the first time, so enjoy it because these will be some of the most unforgettable moments of your life.
“Fight for each other, and in the end, you want to look in the mirror and tell yourself you gave your all. Keep doing what you’re doing right now; you’re going to win this game. I’m going to be supporting and shouting at my TV.
“I really love you all, I have faith in you, and go out there and win that game. Let Morocco hear your words.”
