The suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly met with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, on Monday.
In the UK, Wike arranged a supper for the parliamentarians who had been suspended.
This came after he met with some of his political friends in the capital of Rivers State, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.
Lere Olayinka, the minister’s communications assistant, revealed the meeting on his Facebook page.
Olayinka claims that Rivers State House of Assembly members who are in the UK for Legislative Capacity Building were given a supper by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike yesterday. After spending Sunday evening with his political comrades and friends in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike departed Nigeria.
Remember how President Bola Tinubu suspended the MPs after he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State because of security concerns? Additionally, Governor Sim Fubara received a six-month suspension. The continuous political dispute between Wike and Fubara was the reason for the emergency rule.
The whole Rivers State political system, including the politicians, had been impacted by the crisis.
Later, the Supreme Court stepped in, requiring Governor Fubara to submit the 2024 budget to the Assembly, which was chaired by Martins Amaewhule, and ordering the lawmakers to be reinstated.
However, the MPs prevented Fubara from entering the Assembly complex, therefore his attempt to submit the budget was unsuccessful.
Currently, the suspended legislators are in the UK as part of a program to increase their legislative capacity.
