Wike Claims FG Has Met 10 of 14 Demands by FCTA Workers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has called for understanding from striking workers of the FCT Administration.

Wike said if workers made 14 demands and the government addressed 10, promising to look into the others, there should be room for understanding and patience.

The Minister disclosed this while addressing the press in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Wike: “If you are requesting for 40 things and the government has met 10 things, you should be able to say we will give you some time.

“But everybody spoke to them, the security, the administration and we sat down and said there is more to it.

“This is not my first time of having this kind of issues, I have been governor of Rivers State for eight years, so I do know that if workers have legitimate demands and what the administration can do is to see if they demands are legitimate, what if it’s difficult to fully implement them, however, we shall start with this, give us some time, we would have issued the payment.

“There is nobody that would think that if you are entitled to earn this, the government will deny you, it’s not correct when it’s about wages. That’s why they don’t tell the government the truth.

“Over five billion naira, there is the acting Head of Service, Permanent Secretary, there is tax paying, we will pay December, we are going to pay January, and by the grace of God we are going to pay February.”
