The Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s candidat for the 2027 presidential election and urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
The resolution was reached at the inaugural meeting of the forum held on Wednesday in Abuja, with APC chairmen from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in attendance to deliberate on party affairs and national issues.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Chairman of the Forum and Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the gathering brought together both newly elected and former state chairmen in the first official meeting since their emergence.
According to him, the forum unanimously congratulated President Tinubu on emerging as the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election and pledged its unwavering support for his re-election bid.
The chairmen also expressed sympathy with victims of insecurity and families affected by violent attacks across the country, while commending the efforts of President Tinubu and security agencies in addressing security challenges.
The forum applauded the National Chairman of the APC and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, for what it described as the successful and peaceful conduct of the party’s primaries nationwide.
It also congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in primaries for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly positions across the country.
The APC state chairmen reaffirmed support for the Progressive Governors Forum, praising APC governors for their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and contributions to strengthening the ruling party.
“The forum critically examined the role our governors are playing in supporting the administration and strengthening the party that provided the platform for their emergence,” Ojelabi stated.
The forum further reaffirmed confidence in its leadership under Ojelabi, declaring its recognition and support for the current executive of the APC State Chairmen Forum
Highlighting the party’s growing influence, the chairmen noted that the APC currently controls 32 states and continues to expand its presence in the National Assembly, describing the development as evidence of the party’s increasing acceptance among Nigerians.
On preparations for the 2027 elections, the forum urged eligible Nigerians who have not yet obtained their PVCs to take advantage of the remaining period of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The chairmen stressed that possession of a PVC remains the only means through which citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote, regardless of their support for any political party or candidate.
They pledged to mobilise party structures across the country to encourage voter registration and participation in the electoral process.
The meeting concluded with a commitment by the APC state chairmen to continue working for the growth, unity and electoral success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
