According to the corporation, the Transmission corporation of Nigeria (TCN) is expected to finish the restoration work on the underground transmission line near Millennium Park in Abuja by February 23. The line was destroyed by criminals.
The corporation communicated this information in a power supply update posted on its official X account on Wednesday, emphasizing the assurance obtained from the transmission company and asking for patience from the impacted residents.
“Dear valued customers,” is the text of the public announcement. We are sorry that Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Mabushi, Katampe Districts, Life Camp, Wuse Zones 1–7, Wuse 2, Maitama, portions of the Central Business District, and the neighboring neighborhoods are still experiencing power outages.
This is because the 132kV Katampe-Central Area subterranean transmission cable was vandalized.
“We have been reassured by the Transmission Company of Nigeria that restoration work is actively underway, with its engineers replacing and reconnecting the damaged cable day and night.
“TCN has promised to finish the project and return Central Area Transmission Substation’s (AT5) regular power supply by February 23, 2025.
“We truly appreciate your patience and acknowledge the inconvenience this may have caused you.
“Load management will be put in place to maximize available supply while repair work is ongoing. To guarantee a prompt resolution and the complete restoration of power to the impacted areas, we continue to work closely with TCN.
Over the course of two months, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which consists of 188 franchised locations run by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), had severe power outages and blackouts as a result of several technical problems with their feeders.
The electricity supply to many neighborhoods and businesses was significantly impacted by these outages, which took place between January 1 and February 11, 2025.
According to our correspondent on Wednesday, 26 public notices that were posted on AEDC’s official X account to advise consumers about the outages and interruptions made this information public.
