Warri Refinery Restart: Tinubu to Nigerians, It brings joy to me

    Published on

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the beginning of business at the Warri Refinery on Monday has brought joy to him and Nigerians.

Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson of Tinubu, stated this in a statement on Monday commemorating the kickoff of the state-owned refinery after years of renovation.

The 125,000 barrels per day have resumed operations, according to Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, who made the announcement Monday,

In response, Tinubu expressed his excitement over the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s decision to reopen the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

He hailed it as another outstanding success in 2024 that has bolstered Nigerians’ hope in his administration.

With the 125,000 (bpd) Warri Refinery currently running at 60% capacity, Tinubu stated confidently that his administration’s overall plan to guarantee energy security and efficiency is fully on track.

He praised the NNPCL’s management, led by Mele Kyari, for their diligent efforts to restore Nigeria’s prestige and pride as a significant oil-producing nation.

The President noted that the Warri Refinery will focus on manufacturing and storing vital goods, including straight-run kerosene (SRK), automotive gas oil (AGO), and heavy and light naphtha.

“Today’s Warri Refinery restart makes me and Nigerians happy and joyful. Nigerians’ confidence and optimism for a brighter and more promising future would be further bolstered by this. This is a fantastic way to close off the year following the feat recorded earlier with the old Port Harcourt Refinery. I am equally happy that NNPC Limited is implementing my directive to restore all four refineries to good working condition.

“I congratulate Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for working hard to restore our national pride and make Nigeria a hub for crude oil refining in Africa,” President Tinubu said.

President Tinubu urged NNPCL to accelerate repair work on the Kaduna Refinery and the 150,000 (bpd) second refinery in Port Harcourt to consolidate Nigeria’s position as a global energy provider.

The Warri Refinery returned to operation weeks after NNPC Limited restarted the 60,000 barrels per day at the Port Harcourt Refinery on 26 November 2025.
