Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has expressed that winning the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) would be a significant achievement in his career, possibly marking the conclusion of his international journey. Osimhen, a key player for Napoli, emphasized his desire to secure a title with the Super Eagles during the 2023 AFCON.

The 25-year-old, known for his success with Napoli, winning the Scudetto and being named the CAF Player of the Year, sees AFCON as a crucial milestone. Osimhen shared his sentiments with reporters, stating, “I have done that with Napoli, I have made history, but no matter what I do, no matter how many goals I have scored, to be able to win the AFCON would go a long way in my life but probably when I do that I am done.”

Acknowledging his past AFCON experiences, Osimhen highlighted the learning process from Odion Ighalo during the 2019 tournament. Despite facing injury setbacks, he now aims to contribute to the Super Eagles’ success. Osimhen played a full 90 minutes in Nigeria’s opening game, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.

Reflecting on the disappointing start, he expressed determination to improve, stating, “The first game was really disappointing. Going forward, we need to make sure we get it right in the next game, which is against a tougher opponent.”

Victor Osimhen’s potential retirement after achieving AFCON success adds a layer of significance to his current journey with the national team.
