Ughelli North APC leaders describe purported suspension as flagrant breach of party’s constitution

The Leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta has described the purported suspension of its executive as a “flagrant breach and rape of the party’s constitution”.

The alleged suspended leaders expressed their positions in a rejoinder signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Mr Obakpororo Onoabedje and Barr. Beauty Ubogun-Nze and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Warri.

Copies of the rejoinder were also addressed to the APC National Chairman, National Working Committee,
Delta State Working Committee and other key officers of the party.

The party also announced the indefinite suspension of nine individuals from the Ughelli North Executive Committee for “gross misconduct, insubordination, and breach of party discipline in line with
Article 215 (vi) of the APC Constitution.

Those affected were: Samuel Evwighono; Juliet Oduma; Daniel Osiebe; Pharm. Ogaabe Suzzy; Omokiniovo John; Onakpoma Philip; Ekama Ufuoma; Sobotie Paul, and Emeyarakpo Ufuoma.

The local leadership in a rejoinder addressed to the State Working Committee, described the purported suspension and replacement of its executive officers as “unconstitutional, fraudulent and dead on arrival”.

The alleged suspended leadership faulted the purported emergency meeting of Oct. 4, 2025, during which a vote of no confidence was reportedly passed on it’s top executive members.

“There is no such meeting at the party secretariat on Oct. 4, 2025.

“The chairman, never called any meeting on the said day, nor did the secretary, who is the custodian of the keys to the secretariat, authorised access for any meeting.

“Any such claim is entirely false and fabricated,” they said.

The statement described the alleged suspension as an abuse of the party’s constitution, citing Article 2 of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended).

According to them, Article 2 of the party’s constitution provides for “constitutional supremacy and declaring any contrary decision illegal and void”.

“The purported suspension and replacement is null and void ab initio for being contrary to basic law and indeed the constitution of our party.

“The claims that the chairman failed to convene meetings since June 2023 is ridiculous.

“The chairman, alongside two-thirds majority of the Local Government Executive Committee have held meetings and discharged their duties effectively to the admiration of party members.

“New members were registered and issued party cards as recently as May 15, 2025,” the rejoinder stated.

On the allegation of anti-party activities, the leaders said that the chairman, secretary, and Organising Secretary have consistently engaged in party-building efforts, reconciling new members and promoting the RENEWED HOPE AGENDA of President Bola Tinubu.

They said that some impostors were attempting to destabilise the party at the grassroots level in clear violation of the party’s constitution.

In a shocking revelation, the APC in Ughelli North described the purported resolution as a “fabrication,” revealing that “late Chief Dickson Umukoro allegedly signed the letter”, rendering it invalid.

“The signatories of the purported resolution do not form part of the appropriate organ empowered to call or vote at such a meeting.

“Certain desperate elements within the party are bent on imposing themselves through illegal machinations and forged documents,”the statement said.

The suspended leaders further said that such acts would only weaken the party’s unity ahead of the next elections.

They maintained that the APC in Ughelli North was united, focused, and would not succumb to distractions by political merchants whose only aim was to cause confusion.

“The state of the Ughelli North Local Government Area Executive Committee under Onoabedje’s leadership is very strong and well-positioned to ensure that our party continues to grow stronger as we sweep all political offices at the polls in the next general elections,” they said.

However, in a follow-up resolution adopted at a leadership review meeting, the Ughelli North APC passed a vote of confidence on Hon. Onoabedje (Chairman), Barr. Ubogun-Nze (Secretary) and Mr Henry Ophori (Organising Secretary).

The statement lauded their transparent leadership and commitment to the unity and stability of the party.

The statement further assured that the current executives remained the duly recognised and legitimate officers of the APC in Ughelli North.

They described Mr Samuel Evwighono, Ms Juliet Oduma and Mr Daniel Osiebe as “impostors and meddlesome interlopers”.

They warned that no party member should deal with the aforesaid impostors in respect of the party, nothing that their activities were unconstitutional and aimed at misleading unsuspecting members of the public and party faithful.

The statement also warned those claiming leadership of the party most of whom were recent decampees who bent on causing division should desist forthwith.

They reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity, discipline, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, as members prepared for total victory in 2027.

They also commended the president for his “transformative Renewed Hope Agenda” and the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for his “MORE Agenda that is transforming Delta State into an Eldorado”.
