Uber Nigeria implements fare adjustments to support drivers amidst inflation and fuel price hikes.

Uber Nigeria has recently announced an increase in fares from June 3rd to June 6th. The decision aims to assist drivers who are facing challenges due to inflation and the recent fuel price hike. The fare adjustment reflects Uber’s commitment to providing better earning opportunities for drivers while ensuring an affordable service for riders.

According to Tope Akinwumi, Country Manager for Uber in Nigeria, the fare changes are part of their ongoing efforts to support the driver community and help them cover rising operating costs. Akinwumi emphasized that drivers are at the heart of Uber’s operations, and the company continuously engages with them to improve their experience and understand their business realities.

Uber stated that the fare adjustments are specifically intended to address the recent increase in fuel costs, rather than covering the entire cost of fuel. The company monitors local dynamics and implements changes accordingly. The service fee charged by Uber contributes to maintaining and enhancing their technology, ensuring a reliable platform for both riders and drivers.

Uber claims that drivers on their platform earn more compared to other ride-hailing platforms in Nigeria. The company offers various services, including UberX, Uber Comfort, Uber Greenlight Hubs, and Uber Cash. While facing competition from other players in the market, Uber remains a leading ride-hailing service in Nigeria.

The decision to increase fares comes in response to the current macroeconomic reality in Nigeria, with factors such as the spike in fuel prices and inflation influencing the operating costs for drivers.
