A devastating incident unfolded along the Sagamu-Benin Highway in Ogun State, resulting in the loss of lives, including Ademola Ayinla, a student from the Department of Guidance and Counseling at Lagos State University (LASU), as well as his fellow passengers, Rasak Olayinka and Kelechi Nwagu. The unfortunate accident occurred on Tuesday.
The Ogun State Police reported that the crash took place near the junction of Babcock University in Ilisan. Ayinla was initially rescued from the wreckage and swiftly transported to Babcock Teaching Hospital; however, the attending physician eventually confirmed his passing.
The collision involved a Lexus car, a truck, and a Toyota Sienna. As described by an eyewitness, a Geon Truck with the license plate LAR 730 XB in white, operated by Olayinka, a Toyota of ash color without a registration number driven by Nwagu, and a blue Lexus car with the license plate BDG 979 HD driven by Sorunke Emmanuel, were all involved in the tragic incident late in the evening on Tuesday.
According to the police report, the fatal crash occurred when the driver of the Lexus, Emmanuel, was driving recklessly and collided with the moving truck. This collision caused the Lexus to flip and the Sienna to collide with the Lexus, leading to the entrapment of the Lexus and its occupants.
The statement from the police indicated that Olayinka, Nwagu, and Ayinla were pronounced dead by a medical professional, while the driver of the Lexus, Sorunke, was undergoing treatment at the teaching hospital.
Ogun police spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, confirmed that all the vehicles involved in the accident had been removed from the scene.
