President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a well-trained, well-equipped, and highly motivated Nigeria Police Force.

 Tinubu made this known on Monday during the inaugural National Police Day celebration held at Eagles Square in Abuja, marking the beginning of the 2025 Police Week.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President officially declared April 7 as National Police Day—a yearly occasion to honour fallen officers and recognize the dedication and sacrifices of serving personnel.

“As President, I renew this administration’s strong commitment to the welfare and empowerment of the Nigeria Police Force,” Tinubu said. “A secure nation depends on a capable police force, and we are focused on ensuring our officers are properly trained, equipped, and motivated.”

He noted that various strategic reforms are being implemented to enhance police efficiency and professionalism.

The President outlined key initiatives aimed at improving police welfare, including better housing, accessible healthcare, and quality education for their children. He also emphasized the importance of providing modern tools and technology to boost crime-fighting capabilities and pledged that police salaries and benefits would be aligned with the risks and responsibilities of the job.

Calling the police force the backbone of national security and a protector of democracy, Tinubu said their contributions are invaluable and deserving of national recognition.

“The reason behind establishing National Police Day is simple—to acknowledge your sacrifices and to honour the memories of those who lost their lives in the line of duty,” he explained. “April 7 is not just a date; it symbolizes our lasting appreciation and partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.”

He also praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his leadership team for driving meaningful reforms in line with the government’s agenda.

Earlier, IGP Egbetokun highlighted that National Police Day provides an opportunity to remember fallen heroes and celebrate the courage and service of officers serving in various operational fronts. He also emphasized the day as a call for renewed dedication to professionalism, excellence, and the protection of human rights—values that define the evolving Nigeria Police Force.
