    Tinubu wants Super Eagles at 2026 World Cup -NSC

    President Bola Tinubu has emphasized his desire for the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and has assured the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of the Federal Government’s full support to achieve this goal

    According to the NSC leadership, President Tinubu is concerned about the Super Eagles’ qualification for the World Cup and is ready to provide moral, financial, and other forms of support to the team. The NSC has briefed President Tinubu on their efforts to activate a sports economy and develop sports to a level where Nigeria can win medals, including strategies to collaborate with the NFF to ensure the Super Eagles’ qualification for the World Cup.

    The Super Eagles are facing a challenging situation in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. They are currently in fourth place in Group C with 7 points from 6 matches, trailing the group leaders, South Africa, by 6 points. The Super Eagles need to win all of their remaining four matches to have a chance of qualifying for the World Cup. These matches include a home game against Rwanda, an away game against South Africa in September, followed by an away game against Lesotho and a home game against the Benin Republic in October.

    Despite the challenging circumstances, both former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali remain optimistic about the team’s chances of qualifying. Yobo believes the team can still qualify and should know how to “grind out results,”

    Nwabali notes the difficulty but insists that the team still has a lot of hope. Head coach Eric Chelle is also optimistic, although acknowledging the team must win their remaining games.

    Meanwhile, the camp of the Super Eagles for the decide your destiny 2026 World Cup Qualifiers opens on the first of September in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South-South, Nigeria.

    Nigeria is currently occupying the fourth spot in Group C of the Africa 2026 World Cup Qualifiers behind South Africa, Rwanda and Benin Republic.

    In the general Africa World Cup Qualifiers, Nigeria is at number 30 and only the top 9 countries get automatic tickets to the 2026 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by America, Canada and Mexico.

    The four best after this round of Qualifiers will be involved in a playoff that may offer Africa more slots. The four best group runners-up will be drawn into play-offs to determine the CAF representative at the inter-confederation play-offs.

    Rwanda will be Nigeria’s guest on Match Day 7 on the 6th of September while the Super Eagles will travel to South Africa three days later for that all important confrontation against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Free State also known as Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
